Exploring Web 2.0 Tools in BISD Classrooms

So, just exactly how has Google been deciding which ads to run along the side of these pages? And, should I pimp my crocodile picture on my page? Scott

If you "Pimp Your Profile", you may just get one of those "Sexy Singles". It seems very bizarre that those advertisements are there. That is something that I would expect from Myspace.

Yes, it does seem a bit odd for and educator site. Randy, do you have any control over what gets advertised here? I'm not prudish but someone on the invitations list might get their shorts in a twist over it.

Too funny, Scott! Google ads are supposed to relate to the content of the site, so most of them will have to do with whatever we post. As for the sexy singles, maybe that has to do with the types of members we have so far? Seriously, I would expect that the members we have will have an understanding of Google Ads, and most of us will just ignore them for the most part. As long as they don't contain any pics, and as long as we're dealing with only adults, which is the plan for the group, it shouldn't be a problem.

I've emailed Ning support about it. I'll let you know what they say.

FYI--the great folks that run Ning sent me a reply. Be sure to follow their instructions on doing a screen capture if you see that ad again. You can send it to them at misc@ning.com.

Hi

I'm sorry to hear that this is happening, I understand that the ads may
be inappropriate at times. We're working on changing this and could use
your help.

Please take a screenshot of the next time you see an inappropriate ad
and attach it to a reply. Here's some info on how to take a screenshot:

This will help us remove these ads!

Thanks in advance,
Alex
