If you are not familiar with
Twitter, you should give it a look. Twitter has been described as "micro-blogging." It does combine some elements of blogging with elements of instant messaging. Users create short (140 words or

less) posts describing what they are doing, a useful link, upcoming events, etc. Like blog posts, the posts of Twitter users are archived and can be viewed by visiting the posters' profile pages at a later time. Posts are entirely comprised of text and links. These are viewed by other users, who are "followers" of that particular Twitter user (Twit, Tweet,...). The site gains still greater functionality when users use external applications, such as the browser add-on
Twitbin or the stand-alone
Snitter.
I was skeptical, to say the least, at first. Before its true potential was understood, Twitter was for the most part presented as a way to inform a list of "friends" of the activities a person was engaging in. When I first registered, this seemed to be the general case. Now, however, it has become a source of knowledge, networking, and entertainment (Some Twits are hillarious...just like me!). It is also a time-saver--much more efficient that reading long blog posts to fish out one or two useful nuggets. Give it a try, and I think you'll appreciate Twitter. I haven't shut down my blog, by any means, but I'm thinking about it!
